The COVID 19 federal public health emergency will officially end on May 11, 2023. And in California, Governor Newsom issued a proclamation marking the end of the state’s COVID 19 Pandemic state of emergency effective February 28, 2023.
The impact to people who receive their health insurance from employer groups and from Individual & Family Plans will be minimal. For 6 months after the end of the federal public health emergency CA SB 1473 extends coverage requirements for diagnostic testing and vaccinations. This includes the reimbursement of 8 at home test kits per month.
COVID 19 Pandemic coverage for these services will continue to be at NO CHARGE for both in & out of network facilities. But after the 6 month extension expires, in network coverage for these COVID services will continue at NO CHARGE but out of network services may be subject to the plan’s out of network benefits. Drugs and other therapeutics used in a hospitalization will still be mandated to be covered without utilization management or cost sharing.
